Wildlife Habitat Education Program

WHEP is a 4-H youth natural resource program dedicated to teaching wildlife and fisheries habitat management to junior and senior level (ages 9-19) youth in the United States.

WHEP offers a fun and exciting opportunity to:

  • Learn about the wildlife around you
  • Explore new places
  • Work towards a team goal
  • Career Exploration

NC WHEP holds a State Contest in the Spring for county teams and individuals to compete. Teams are made up of 3-4 members and have a Junior (9-13) and Senior (14-19) level. Cloverbuds are welcome to participate as well.

The North Carolina State Contest features 4 activities:

  • Wildlife Identification & Wildlife Knowledge
  • Identifying Wildlife Foods
  • Aerial Photos
  • On-Site Wildlife Management Practices

Each member will receive a NC WHEP Learning and Activity Guide which contains everything you need to know for the contest.
